Group Exercise FAQs

Q. What is a particular class like?

A. The best way to find out what a class is all about is to research that class. Ask other members, ask the instructor, read the class description, or even just watch the first time. Attending a class for the first time can seem intimidating, but you can be certain that everyone, including the instructor, was new to that class at one time, and they all went through the same learning process.

Q. Do I have to pay extra for a class?

A. Members of the Health & Wellness Center can attend any one of our 150 land and aquatic group exercise classes at no additional charge. Certain specialty programs such as Bootcamp or Circuit Training do require an additional fee, but all regularly scheduled classes and Community Health & Outreach programs are available to members at no additional charge. We do require all members and non-members to register for Community Health & Outreach classes although for members there is typically no fee associated.

Q. What classes should I attend as a beginner?

A. As a beginner, you should feel good about your decision to try Group Exercise. One of the greatest benefits to joining a group program is the fact that many other participants in the program are new as well. Our group exercise schedule includes descriptions with a rating system. The more hearts you see next to the description of the class you want to attend, the more challenging the class will be. When a class difficulty level is 3 hearts rest assured that it is a class that is appropriate for all levels. It is highly recommended that you inform the instructor that you are a new participant.
